What is Tampermonkey?#
Let's take a look at the official introduction:
Tampermonkey is a free browser extension and the most popular user script manager, which is available for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Opera Next, and Firefox.
Although some supported browsers have native support for user scripts, Tampermonkey provides more convenience in managing your user scripts. It offers many features such as convenient script installation, automatic update checks, script running status overview in tabs, built-in editor, and the ability to run scripts that are not originally compatible.
It can be quickly installed, so give it a try!
Developers upload scripts to open platforms, and with Tampermonkey, you can easily install and manage various scripts. Some of these scripts have amazing features.
Here are some of my personal favorites:
- Bypass Bilibili's regional restrictions (also known as "Wall Investigation" 🙂)
- Baidu Netdisk direct link download
- Baidu Netdisk automatic CAPTCHA filling
- Ad-blocking on various websites
- Downloading PDFs from CNKI (this is really useful for college students, I've never used the CAJ reader before)
- Downloading YouTube videos

How to Install and Use Tampermonkey?#
It's very simple, just go to the Chrome Web Store to install it. It is also available on the Microsoft Edge Store.
After installation, a monkey icon will appear in your browser. Click on it and select "Get Scripts".
Here, I recommend choosing Greasyfork as it has more scripts.
Search for the keyword of the script you want, for example, I search for "CNKI" on Greasyfork.
The second one is the script I'm currently using, click on it to install.
Installation is completed instantly. Click on the monkey icon again to enter the management panel, where you can see that the script has been installed and enabled.
Go to CNKI to test it out. Find any paper and you will see that a PDF download option has been added. Many degree theses on CNKI do not provide PDFs, but with this script, you can download them in PDF format.
